We use IPUMS international census microdata to examine the impact of gender
and race gaps in educational attainment on union formation patterns in six Latin
American countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Mexico. We
apply multivariable logistic regression models to explore (i) differences in homogamy by education and (ii) interactions between educational attainment and sex-ratio and ethnic similarity within educational group. All models control for contextual (sex-ratio, group size, and ethnic similarity within educational group) and individual factors (sex, educational attainment and ethnicity/birthplace).
