Abstract: The critical functions within the academy of creating and sharing new knowledge have undergone significant change as technology has enabled new research methodologies, new tools for mining and integrating diverse content, and new systems for communication and publishing. In this context, the library is challenged to support e-scholarship: research processes that are increasingly interdisciplinary, collaborative, and dependent on robust cyberinfrastructure. Wendy Lougee will share results of two recent studies at the University of Minnesota to better understand scholars’ behavior and challenges in research workflow. Current research and development which is creating online environments to support virtual research communities will be highlighted.
