ABSTRACT: Dr. Deluca will offer a critical overview of several key residential mobility programs, including Gautreaux, MTO and the current Baltimore Thompson program. She will talk about the sociological, policy relevant and practice-tested aspects of the programs, summarize the existing research, and briefly discuss how some of the research was conducted to test the effects of neighborhood on child and family outcomes. The strengths and limitations of the programs and research will be addressed. Additionally, she will address the dilemmas and temptations of being a social scientist involved with programs that attract heavy media, legal and policy attention.
MPC Seminars are held in 50 Willey Hall on the West Bank of the University of Minnesota Minneapolis Campus.
