Abstract: During industrialization the different economic branches in Stockholm underwent significant changes, both on the structural and individual levels. Many old traditional occupations died out and were replaced by new modern occupations connected to large-scale changes in the economic, technological and administrative fields. In this study a group of people are followed over time as they leave their old crafts and either enter a new occupation, leave the city, or die. The study is based on the large database, Rotemannen, at the Stockholm City Archives and makes extensive use of HISCO-classifications to group and categorize the material.
