IPUMS-International Data Release Scheduled for June 2006
The IPUMS-International project will make a major new data release in June 2006. Nineteen new samples from five countries will be added to the existing data series: Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, South Africa, and Venezuela. The resulting series—47 samples from 13 countries, with 150 million person records—strengthens the coverage for Africa and creates a substantial concentration of samples in Latin America going back to the 1960s. Comparative international research in Latin America should be greatly stimulated by this unprecedented collection of public data.
Following the June release, the IPUMS-International project plans major data releases (of 15 to 20 samples) every six months for the next several years. The next release in November 2006 will include a concentration of European samples. Within four years we will have a data series consisting of at least 140 samples from 50 countries. Over 50 countries have already sent us their data, and IPUMS-International continues to make new agreements to preserve the world’s microdata. The “Release Dates” page on the IPUMS-International website will contain a list of samples for upcoming releases, so scholars can plan accordingly.
