Coming Soon from IPUMS-USA
Look for big changes on the IPUMS-USA website in the next few months. This Fall the MPC staff will release the first-ever redesign of the IPUMS-USA website. The current website was designed in the mid-1990s, and it has changed very little since that time. The new website incorporates the latest technologies in web design and Java-based web functionality. These improvements will allow IPUMS staff to more easily release new data and provide feature improvements in the future. We hope that users will also find the new site more attractive and more robust.
The IPUMS-USA staff is also preparing several new data releases for the coming year. In Summer 2006, we will release an all new 1910 sample representing just over 1.4% of the population, up from the current 0.4% sample. The new 1910 sample will include large over samples of African-Americans, Hispanics, Alaskans, Hawaiians, and American Indians. All of the new 1910 data will be released as a single dataset with weights adjusted to properly represent the entire United States population. We also plan to release an IPUMS version of the 2005 American Community Survey as soon as the Census Bureau makes the dataset available.
